We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a broken spring and wondering if your car’s trapped until Tuesday. Every person on this page works out of our North Hollywood shop, lives in the Valley or nearby, and has been trained under the same rule Carl Dutton set back in 1984: fix it right, say what you’ll do, and be there when you say. No phone trees, no subcontractors, no surprises.

Carl Dutton, Owner
Carl started Mainspring Garage Door Co. in 1984, naming it for the spring that carries a door’s full weight - the part that, if it fails, everything else stops working. He spent his first decade doing every job himself: springs in Burbank at dawn, openers in Studio City by noon, emergency calls in North Hollywood past midnight. These days he runs the shop, answers calls when the line backs up, and still drives out for jobs that need an extra set of experienced hands. Carl holds a California contractor’s license and trains every technician personally on torsion spring safety. He keeps a worn copy of the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association manual in his truck, and he’s been known to stop mid-conversation to point out a misaligned track on a neighbor’s house.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus joined us in 2017 after eight years running his own small repair operation in Van Nuys. He specializes in torsion spring systems and cable drum repairs, the kind of work where a wrong move can send metal flying. Marcus is factory-certified on LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers, and he’s the technician other crews call when a job goes sideways. He lives in Sherman Oaks with two dogs who bark at every garage door in the neighborhood. His truck is organized with surgical precision - springs sorted by wire size, cables coiled and labeled, remotes in a drawer he can find blindfolded.
Elena R., Senior Installer
Elena came to us in 2019 with a background in commercial door systems, including the heavy insulated models common in North Hollywood’s newer construction and ADU conversions. She handles full door replacements, custom wood installations, and the precise track alignment work that makes a Clopay or Amarr door run quiet for years. Elena is certified on Wayne Dalton’s TorqueMaster system and Raynor’s pinch-resistant designs. She grew up in Toluca Lake and still points out doors she installed while driving past. Off hours, she restores vintage motorcycles, which she says taught her more about tension and alignment than any manual.
Darnell K., Service Coordinator
Darnell answers the phones you’re actually reaching when you call (747) 239-5578 - no voicemail, no answering service, no “press 1 for repairs.” He’s been with Mainspring since 2021 and knows which technician carries which parts, who’s closest to your neighborhood, and whether your description of “a loud bang and now the door’s crooked” means a broken spring or a snapped cable. Darnell grew up in North Hollywood near Victory Boulevard and still catches dinner at the same taco stand he’s frequented since high school. He keeps a whiteboard behind his desk with every active job, updated by hand, because he doesn’t trust software to tell him what he already knows.
Jesse P., Apprentice Technician
Jesse started in 2023, fresh from a trade program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. He’s working his way through every system we service: extension springs, torsion assemblies, belt-drive openers, smart home integrations. Carl pairs him with Marcus or Elena on every job until he’s proven he can handle a spring replacement solo. Jesse was born in Pacoima and lives with his grandmother in Sun Valley; he’s the one who remembers to ask customers if they need their remote reprogrammed and their keypad code reset. He still carries a notebook to write down what went wrong on jobs that didn’t go to plan.

Every person on this crew, from Carl to Jesse, works under the same written promise: the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something we fix isn’t right, we come back. Our trucks leave the North Hollywood shop stocked with springs, cables, rollers, and openers for all major brands: LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Craftsman, and Raynor. Most jobs finish in one visit because we don’t believe in making you wait for parts we should have brought. Pricing is flat and stated before any work starts - the number you agree to is the number on the bill.
Calls come to a live person, 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends, and holidays. That’s not a feature we added later. It’s how we’ve operated since the beginning.
